Wind-rated garage doors are an eligible upgrade under Florida’s My Safe Florida Home program, and for a lot of Naples households that turns a $4,000 decision into a $1,300 one. What the Program Is
My Safe Florida Home is a state programme that pays toward hurricane hardening on existing single-family homes. It funds the things that keep the building envelope closed in a storm — roof attachment, roof-to-wall connections, and opening protection, which is where garage doors come in.
It matters here for a specific reason. In Collier County the garage door is very often the one unprotected opening left on an otherwise well-built house, and the wind mitigation credit is all or nothing. Who Qualifies
Low-income households
At or below 80% of area median income for Collier County: grants of up to $10,000 with no matching contribution required.
Moderate-income households
Between 80% and 120% of area median income: a 2:1 match. You contribute $1 for every $2 of grant, so $5,000 of your own money unlocks the full $10,000.
