Garage door installation in Isles of Capri is not a case of hanging whatever is in stock. The door is the biggest opening in your wall, it has to carry a Florida Product Approval for 170 mph, and it has to be fitted with the track, struts and jamb fixings the approval actually covers. We measure, we supply, we pull the permit, we fit, and we book the inspection — across the four islands off Capri Boulevard, Tarpon Village, Pompano Drive and the canal streets.

A new door is four separate decisions, and most quotes only talk about the first one. The door itself — steel gauge, insulation, panel profile, colour. The rating — which product approval it carries and whether the track and fixings come from the same approved assembly. The opening — whether the jamb, the header and the headroom are sound enough to hang something heavier than what was there. And the opener — whether it can handle the new weight and whether it meets the current safety and battery-backup rules.
We take all four in one visit. The measure is free and it is a real measure: opening width and height, headroom above the opening, side room either side, backroom depth, the condition of the wood jamb and the header, and whether the floor is level across the opening. Those numbers decide whether you get a standard-lift track, a low-headroom track or a high-lift, and they decide whether the jamb needs replacing before anything is fitted. A quote given over the phone without those numbers is a guess.
Salt is the deciding factor on this side of the county. Airborne chloride does not attack the painted door skin first — it attacks the parts nobody looks at. The torsion shaft and the end bearings pick it up, the lift cables corrode from the inside of the strand outward, and the bottom two inches of the track and the track feet go first because that is where wind-blown water sits. A door in Isles of Capri that is groaning on the way up is usually telling you the bearings are dry and rusting, not that it needs oil. On coastal jobs we fit galvanised torsion hardware and stainless fixings as standard, because plain steel in Isles of Capri is a repeat visit waiting to happen.
Raised short panel, flush and carriage-house styles are all available wind-rated. Colour is where HOA rules bite hardest in Isles of Capri, so we match to an approved elevation and get the spec sheet to you before ordering.
Glazed top sections have to be rated too. An unrated window in a rated door voids the approval, which is exactly the thing an inspector looks for. If you want light, we specify a section with approved glazing rather than cutting one in.
Collier County is designed to a 170 mph three-second gust wind speed, and a garage door is the largest opening in the wall of most homes in Isles of Capri. That makes it the part of the building envelope with the most to prove. A compliant door here carries a Florida Product Approval or a Notice of Acceptance covering both positive and negative design pressure in the region of 40 to 50 pounds per square foot, and the approval covers the whole assembly: the door sections, the track, the reinforcing struts, the end and centre bearing plates and the jamb fixings. Swap any one of those for something cheaper and the approval no longer describes what is on your wall.
Two things surprise people. The first is that Collier County is not a High-Velocity Hurricane Zone — that designation covers Miami-Dade and Broward, and the TAS 201, 202 and 203 test protocols that go with it are not what a Collier door is certified against. Companies quoting “Miami-Dade approved” hardware in Isles of Capri are either selling you something you do not need or do not know the difference. The second is that Isles of Capri is inside the wind-borne debris region, because that region begins at 140 mph and Collier is well past it. An impact rating or approved protection is not optional here, even well inland.
We pull the Collier County permit on every door replacement, we book the inspection, and we hand you the product approval sheet with the serial number on it. Keep it. It is the document your insurer wants when you ask about a wind mitigation credit under form OIR-B1-1802, and it is the document a buyer’s inspector will ask for later.
Isles of Capri is four small islands surrounded by water on every side, which makes it the harshest corrosion environment in Collier County alongside Marco. Nearly every garage faces a canal or the bay. Plain steel hardware here does not last — we fit galvanised torsion components and stainless fixings as the default, not as an upgrade, and we check cables on every visit because they corrode from inside the strand where you cannot see it.
The housing here runs to 1960s and 1970s waterfront homes with substantial rebuilds and elevations since, which means two-car doors facing open water on nearly every lot, plus boat and equipment storage. That matters when someone quotes you a price over the phone without asking a single question about the door. In the four islands off Capri Boulevard, Tarpon Village, Pompano Drive and the canal streets we have worked on enough of these openings to know what is behind the drywall before we arrive, which is why we can usually give you a firm number on the phone and stick to it.

Openers, springs and repair pricing are on the pricing page. If you are replacing a door after storm damage, it is worth reading our notes on the wind mitigation insurance credit and My Safe Florida Home before you order — the paperwork has to be right from the start.
A straight swap of a double door on existing framing is a half-day job, typically three to five hours including the old door coming out and the opener being re-set to the new travel limits. If the jamb, the header or the track spacing has to change, allow a full day. We book the Collier County inspection separately and you do not need to be there for it.
Yes. A garage door replacement is a permitted alteration to the building envelope in Collier County, and it is inspected. We pull the permit in our own name and hand you the product approval sheet afterwards. Skipping the permit is what holds up a sale later and what an insurer points at when a wind mitigation credit is refused.
In Isles of Capri the door has to be approved for roughly 170 mph three-second gust with matching positive and negative design pressures — in practice around 40 to 50 pounds per square foot. Collier County is also inside the wind-borne debris region, so the door needs an impact rating or approved protection. It is not a High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so Miami-Dade TAS protocols are not what your door is certified against.
If the garage is attached, has a room above it, or you use it as a workshop or gym, yes. A polyurethane-insulated steel door at R-12 or better takes ten to fifteen degrees off a Collier garage in August and cuts door noise noticeably. If it is a detached store for beach chairs, a non-insulated wind-rated door is the sensible spend.
Yes — removal and disposal is $49 and it includes the old track, the old springs and the old hardware. We do not leave a pile of steel on your driveway and we do not charge separately for a dump run.
Yes, and in Isles of Capri that comes up often. We match the panel profile, the colour and the window layout to an approved elevation, and we can give you the manufacturer spec sheet to submit to the association before anything is ordered. Getting that wrong means taking a brand-new door back off the wall, so we do not order until the approval is in hand.
Usually yes, but it has to be re-programmed to the new door weight and travel, and the safety eyes and force settings have to be re-tested under UL 325. If the opener predates 2020 it will not have the battery backup Florida has required since July of that year, and on a new install that is the sensible moment to change it — from $389 fitted.
A wind-rated steel single door starts from $1,190 fitted and a double from $1,690. Insulated doubles start from $2,290 and impact-rated doors from $1,490. Permit and inspection is $129 and old door removal is $49. There is no call-out fee and no charge for the measure and quote.
You get the price before anyone drives out, and if you decide not to go ahead you owe us nothing.
