A door that starts down and goes back up is running its safety system, and where in the travel it reverses tells you almost everything. Reversing immediately points one way; reversing an inch above the floor points somewhere completely different. Neither is fixed by turning the force up — that is the one thing not to do.

Five causes cover almost every one of these we see in Immokalee. They are not equally likely, and they are listed in roughly the order we find them.
If the door barely moves before going back up, the beam between the two floor-level sensors is broken or weak. Misalignment, a dirty lens, low sun straight into the eye, or corroded terminals on a coastal address.
The opener has to know where the floor is. Set too far and the door presses into the concrete, the opener reads the resistance as an obstruction, and it reverses. Very common after a new opener, a floor coating, or spring work that changed the balance.
A seized roller, a bent track, a cable off its drum or a bind in the curve all create genuine resistance that the opener is right to stop for. The fault is the resistance, not the opener.
An insulated or wind-rated door is heavier than the single-skin it replaced. If the spring specification was not changed with it, the opener is working against weight it should not be carrying, and it reads normal travel as an obstruction.
The slowest version of this fault. Drag builds over months, the door starts reversing occasionally, then daily. People adjust the force and the real problem keeps worsening underneath.
Do not turn the close-force up to make it stop reversing. The force setting is the mechanism that makes the door back off when it meets a person or a car. Raising it to overcome a real fault removes a safety system that exists under UL 325 because children have been killed by closing garage doors.
The point of the visit is to find the cause, not to replace the first plausible part. On a call like this in Immokalee:
Immokalee is inland and gets no salt, but it sits in the wind-borne debris region under the current code, which surprises a lot of homeowners who assume that only applies on the coast. It also has the county’s heaviest concentration of commercial roll-up doors on packing houses and equipment barns, which is a different trade to a residential sectional door and needs different parts on the van.
The housing here is largely single and two-car doors, a number of agricultural and packing-shed roll-up doors, and openings that see heavy daily use, with older frame and block homes alongside newer Habitat and workforce builds. Around the streets off Main Street and New Market Road, Lake Trafford Road, Carson Road and the Farm Worker Village area that shapes which of the causes above turns up most often.
Inland in Immokalee corrosion is rarely the driver. Heat and cycle count are. A garage here runs above 100 degrees for months, and the parts that fail first are the plastic ones — rollers and opener gears.
What it costs. Sensor and limit work is the small end. A door that reverses because of genuine resistance is the useful catch — that one was heading for a jam, and finding it at the reversing stage is what keeps it cheap. We quote starting-from figures and we do not close a price before seeing the door. No call-out fee, no diagnostic fee, and no evening, weekend or holiday surcharge.
Depending on what we find, this call often ends up being one of these:
If the door is generally tired rather than faulty, a full service and the right wear parts is usually the better call, and we will say so.
The reversing itself is the safety system working. What is unsafe is overriding it. If the door reverses because something is genuinely binding, forcing it closed is how doors come off their tracks and panels get creased.
You can reach it, and we would rather you did not use it to mask a fault. If the door needs more force than it did last year, something changed — and that something is what should be fixed.
Because the floor is now fractionally higher than the down-limit expects. The door reaches the new surface before the opener thinks it should, reads it as an obstruction, and reverses. A limit reset, nothing more.
Intermittent points at the beam — a filmed lens, a marginal alignment, or sun at a particular time of day. A consistent fault at the same point in the travel points at geometry or resistance instead.
Then the first question is what spring specification was fitted for the new door weight. An insulated door is meaningfully heavier, and reusing the old springs leaves the opener lifting weight it was never rated for.
