Garage door installation in Fort Myers is not a case of hanging whatever is in stock. The door is the biggest opening in your wall, it has to carry a Florida Product Approval for 165 mph, and it has to be fitted with the track, struts and jamb fixings the approval actually covers. We measure, we supply, we pull the permit, we fit, and we book the inspection — across the McGregor Boulevard historic homes, Whiskey Creek, Fort Myers Shores, Gateway, Colonial Boulevard and the downtown river district.

A new door is four separate decisions, and most quotes only talk about the first one. The door itself — steel gauge, insulation, panel profile, colour. The rating — which product approval it carries and whether the track and fixings come from the same approved assembly. The opening — whether the jamb, the header and the headroom are sound enough to hang something heavier than what was there. And the opener — whether it can handle the new weight and whether it meets the current safety and battery-backup rules.
We take all four in one visit. The measure is free and it is a real measure: opening width and height, headroom above the opening, side room either side, backroom depth, the condition of the wood jamb and the header, and whether the floor is level across the opening. Those numbers decide whether you get a standard-lift track, a low-headroom track or a high-lift, and they decide whether the jamb needs replacing before anything is fitted. A quote given over the phone without those numbers is a guess.
Fort Myers is close enough to the water for salt to matter without being on the beach. You see it as a slow problem rather than a fast one: bearings that dry out and start to squeal, cable strands that discolour before they fray, and rust bleeding out of the bottom track fixings after four or five years. It is the kind of wear that is cheap to catch and expensive to ignore, because a cable that snaps under load usually takes the door off the track and creases a panel on the way down. When we replace hardware here we use galvanised springs and stainless fixings, which costs very little more and roughly doubles how long it lasts.
Raised short panel, flush and carriage-house styles are all available wind-rated. Colour is where HOA rules bite hardest in Fort Myers, so we match to an approved elevation and get the spec sheet to you before ordering.
Glazed top sections have to be rated too. An unrated window in a rated door voids the approval, which is exactly the thing an inspector looks for. If you want light, we specify a section with approved glazing rather than cutting one in.
Fort Myers sits in Lee County, so the paperwork and the numbers are not the Collier ones. Lee County and the City of Bonita Springs run their own permitting for a garage door replacement, and the design wind speed used for 33901 addresses is set separately from Naples. A door fitted here needs a Florida Product Approval or a Notice of Acceptance covering roughly 165 mph three-second gust with the matching positive and negative pressures, and it needs the track, the struts and the jamb fixings from the same approved assembly — not a rated door screwed to whatever brackets were already on the wall.
Lee County is not a High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so the Miami-Dade TAS 201, 202 and 203 test protocols do not apply here. What does apply is the wind-borne debris requirement, which means the door needs to be impact-rated or fitted with approved protection. We pull the permit, we leave you the approval documents, and we make sure the label on the door matches the paperwork, because that label is what an insurance inspector photographs.
Fort Myers has the oldest housing stock we work on and the broadest range. A McGregor Boulevard house may have a garage that predates the modern code entirely, with a wooden header and a door that was never rated for anything. Whiskey Creek and the 1970s neighbourhoods are on their second or third door. Gateway and the eastern communities are new enough that the original hardware is still in place and just reaching the end of its cycle life.
The housing here runs to 1920s through to the present — the widest span of building ages in the region, which means everything from single detached garages on 1950s ranches to three-car openings in Gateway, plus a real amount of commercial roll-up work. That matters when someone quotes you a price over the phone without asking a single question about the door. In the McGregor Boulevard historic homes, Whiskey Creek, Fort Myers Shores, Gateway, Colonial Boulevard and the downtown river district we have worked on enough of these openings to know what is behind the drywall before we arrive, which is why we can usually give you a firm number on the phone and stick to it.
Starting-from prices, supplied and fitted, with the free measure included and no call-out fee. The final number depends on the size, the rating, the insulation and whether the opening needs work.

Openers, springs and repair pricing are on the pricing page. If you are replacing a door after storm damage, it is worth reading our notes on the wind mitigation insurance credit and My Safe Florida Home before you order — the paperwork has to be right from the start.
A straight swap of a double door on existing framing is a half-day job, typically three to five hours including the old door coming out and the opener being re-set to the new travel limits. If the jamb, the header or the track spacing has to change, allow a full day. We book the Lee County inspection separately and you do not need to be there for it.
Yes. A garage door replacement is a permitted alteration to the building envelope in Lee County and the City of Bonita Springs, and it is inspected. We pull the permit in our own name and hand you the product approval sheet afterwards. Skipping the permit is what holds up a sale later and what an insurer points at when a wind mitigation credit is refused.
In Fort Myers the door has to be approved for roughly 165 mph three-second gust with matching positive and negative design pressures — in practice around 40 to 50 pounds per square foot. Lee County is also inside the wind-borne debris region, so the door needs an impact rating or approved protection. It is not a High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so Miami-Dade TAS protocols are not what your door is certified against.
If the garage is attached, has a room above it, or you use it as a workshop or gym, yes. A polyurethane-insulated steel door at R-12 or better takes ten to fifteen degrees off a Collier garage in August and cuts door noise noticeably. If it is a detached store for beach chairs, a non-insulated wind-rated door is the sensible spend.
Yes — removal and disposal is $49 and it includes the old track, the old springs and the old hardware. We do not leave a pile of steel on your driveway and we do not charge separately for a dump run.
Yes, and in Fort Myers that comes up often. We match the panel profile, the colour and the window layout to an approved elevation, and we can give you the manufacturer spec sheet to submit to the association before anything is ordered. Getting that wrong means taking a brand-new door back off the wall, so we do not order until the approval is in hand.
Usually yes, but it has to be re-programmed to the new door weight and travel, and the safety eyes and force settings have to be re-tested under UL 325. If the opener predates 2020 it will not have the battery backup Florida has required since July of that year, and on a new install that is the sensible moment to change it — from $389 fitted.
A wind-rated steel single door starts from $1,190 fitted and a double from $1,690. Insulated doubles start from $2,290 and impact-rated doors from $1,490. Permit and inspection is $129 and old door removal is $49. There is no call-out fee and no charge for the measure and quote.
You get the price before anyone drives out, and if you decide not to go ahead you owe us nothing.
