Garage door repair in Naples is rarely something you planned for. The spring goes at seven in the morning, the door sits four inches off the floor, and the car is on the wrong side of it. Call us and a technician is on the way today, with the price agreed before he leaves — springs, cables, rollers, tracks, panels and openers, across Golden Gate, East Naples, Marco Island and the rest of Collier County.

Almost every garage door failure comes back to the same handful of parts. Here is what breaks, what it looks like from your driveway, and what we do about it.
The springs, not the opener, carry the weight of the door. A double door weighs between 150 and 250 pounds, and the springs are what make it feel like forty. When one lets go you hear a bang like a gunshot, the door becomes immovable, and the opener strains and gives up.
Look at the steel shaft above the door. A torsion spring with a clean two-inch gap in the coil has broken. On older Naples homes with extension springs, you will see a long spring alongside each horizontal track, and a broken one usually hangs slack.
Please do not try to lift it. With a broken spring there is nothing holding the weight, and a door that is propped or forced can come down hard. If you have to get a car out, pull the red release cord, keep everyone clear of the opening, and call us.

The lift cables run from the bottom bracket to the drums at either end of the shaft. When one frays through, that side drops, the door climbs crooked, and within a day or two it has pulled the track out of line. We replace cables in pairs, check the drums for grooving, and reset the tension so both sides carry the same load.
A roller jumps the rail and the door ends up wedged at an angle. It usually follows a cable failure or a bumper, but on doors that are ten or fifteen years old it is often just worn rollers finally giving up. The repair is straightforward when it is caught early; run the opener against a jammed door and you turn a $200 job into a new panel.
Grinding, squealing, a door that shudders on the way up. Within a mile or two of the Gulf, open-bearing steel rollers rust from the inside and start chewing the track. We fit sealed-bearing nylon rollers as standard on coastal homes — they run quieter and they do not seize up in salt air.
Vertical tracks take the hit from bumpers and from doors that have come off the rollers. A kinked section makes the door bind in the same spot every time. Most of the time a section can be straightened or swapped rather than replacing the whole set.
In Southwest Florida a creased section is more than cosmetic. It breaks the door’s wind rating, it catches on the track, and it is the first thing a wind mitigation inspector writes down. Where the door is a current model we can often replace a single section instead of the whole door.
The motor hums but nothing moves, the door reverses halfway, the remote works and the wall button does not. A good share of these are a stripped nylon gear or a photo-eye knocked out of alignment, not a dead opener. Both are cheap fixes, and both get sold as a new unit more often than they should.
The bottom seal is what keeps the rain, the sand and the geckos out. Florida sun cooks it hard and flat within a few years. It is a small job that makes a noticeable difference, and we usually do it while we are there for something else.

Two minutes on the phone and you will know what is wrong and roughly what it costs.

Golden Gate to Marco Island. Price agreed before anyone drives out, and nothing owed if you decide not to go ahead.
A door that would run fifteen years in Ohio does not run fifteen years in Collier County. Four things are working against it here, and knowing which one is chewing up your door changes what we recommend.
Within a mile or so of the Gulf, the air carries enough chloride to pit bare steel. Black oil-tempered springs corrode from the inside of the coil where you cannot see it, and they snap years before their cycle rating. Open-bearing rollers seize. Hinges streak rust down the door face. On coastal homes we fit galvanized springs and sealed-bearing rollers as standard, and stainless hardware where it is exposed.
A closed garage in July sits well above a hundred degrees. Nylon opener gears go brittle, circuit boards fail early, weather seals harden and crack, and the grease in factory bearings thins out and runs. Doors here need lubrication more often than the manual says.
June through November brings wind load, flying debris and days of driving rain. Even a storm that does no visible damage can rack a door slightly out of square, and that shows up months later as a door that binds on one side.
A door that sits unused from May to November has its own problems. Grease sets, seals stick to the concrete, opener batteries die, and the first cycle after six months is the one that breaks something. A tune-up before you head north and a check when you come back costs a fraction of the repair.
Worth knowing: if your door is within a mile of the water and still has black springs and steel rollers, it is running on parts that were never meant for this coast. Swapping them at the next service is cheap. Waiting for them to fail is not.
An honest answer saves you money in both directions. Plenty of doors are worth fixing for $250 and will run another decade.
The panels are straight and solid, the frame is dry, and what failed is a spring, cable, roller or opener — the parts that are designed to wear out. A door in that condition is worth keeping.
The bottom section is rusted through, more than one panel is creased, the door has no wind rating and you are chasing an insurance credit, or you are calling someone out twice a year.
If your door has another ten years in it, we will tell you so. Selling a $5,000 door to someone who needed a $280 spring is how a company gets one job and no referrals. Read about garage door replacement in Naples →
An open garage door is an open house. When a spring goes at nine at night or a storm bends a track on a Sunday, the problem is not only the door — it is that the house is standing open until someone fixes it.
We take emergency calls around the clock across Collier County. In most cases we either complete the repair on the spot or secure the door closed that night and finish it in the morning, so the garage is not left open until Monday. After-hours calls carry an additional $75 to $200 depending on time and distance, and you hear that number on the phone before anyone drives out. More about 24/7 emergency service →
We work out of Golden Gate and cover the county from the Estates out to the islands, plus south Lee.
Most calls placed before early afternoon are handled the same day across Naples, Golden Gate, East Naples and North Naples. Marco Island, Immokalee and Ave Maria are usually same day as well, occasionally next morning depending on the schedule. The emergency line is answered 24 hours.
A spring replacement runs about an hour. Cables, rollers and a door put back on track are usually 45 minutes to 90 minutes. An opener repair depends on the part, but most are done in under an hour. A single panel replacement can take longer if the section has to be ordered.
Often, yes. The parts that fail — springs, cables, rollers, openers — are wear items, and replacing them on a door whose panels are straight and whose frame is sound is good value. It stops being worth it when the bottom section is rusted through, when more than one panel is creased, or when the door has no wind rating and you are trying to qualify for the insurance credit.
We would strongly advise against it. A torsion spring holds several hundred pounds of stored energy, and winding bars under tension have put people in hospital. It is one of the few jobs on a house where the downside of getting it wrong is severe rather than expensive.
Springs are rated in cycles, not years. A standard 10,000-cycle spring on a door that opens three or four times a day lasts roughly six or seven years. Near the Gulf, salt corrosion inside the coil brings that number down. Doors that are out of balance shorten it further, which is why we test balance on every visit.
