The door climbs crooked, one side hangs back, or there is slack cable beside the drum. Stop using it — a door on one cable is under real load.
Do not run the door. A garage door hanging on one cable puts the whole weight onto one side of the track and one bottom bracket. That bracket is under full spring tension and it is the single most dangerous component on the assembly. Leave the door where it is and call.
Garage door cable repair in Fort Lauderdale covers 33301–33334 and neighbourhoods including Las Olas Isles, Victoria Park, Rio Vista, Coral Ridge, Harbordale, Sailboat Bend, Colee Hammock and the Galt Ocean Mile. A lift cable is a length of aircraft-grade wire rope that runs from the bottom bracket up to a drum on the spring shaft. It does not stretch and it does not wear out quickly — when one fails, something else usually caused it.
It came off the drum. Almost always after a spring broke and the door dropped. The cable unwinds, the door sits crooked and jams in the track. The cable itself may be fine, but the drum has to be re-seated and both sides re-tensioned evenly.
It frayed and parted. Cables fray where they wrap the drum and where they sit in the bottom bracket. In Fort Lauderdale, salt-laden air makes this far worse — a cable is many fine strands twisted together, so it has an enormous amount of surface area packed into a small part, and corrosion starts between the strands where you cannot see it. That is why a cable can look acceptable the week before it parts.
It jumped the track or got crushed. A door forced when it was binding, or a bottom bracket that shifted. The cable is a symptom here, not the cause, and fitting a new one without correcting the track just repeats the failure.
The two cables were fitted the same day, carry the same load and have taken the same number of cycles. Replacing one and leaving the other means a mismatched pair pulling unevenly, which loads the springs unequally and is a reliable way to end up with the door off the track. It also means a second visit within the year.
The drums, for scoring and for correct seating. The bottom brackets, which rust from the inside in Broward County. The spring condition and the winding, because a cable failure is very often the aftermath of a spring at the end of its cycle life. The track for distortion at the curve, and the rollers, which are cheap and usually finished by the time a cable has let go.
Tell us whether the door is crooked, jammed or down. We will tell you what it needs before anyone drives out.

Both cables fitted start from $119. Cable drums start from $79 each. If a spring caused the failure, torsion springs start from $179 fitted and a matched pair from $219. There is no call-out fee and no night, weekend or holiday surcharge, and if you decide not to go ahead you owe nothing.
A jammed door forced one more time is how a $119 cable job becomes a new section.
Both cables fitted start from $119. If the failure also took a spring, springs start from $179 fitted. Drums, bottom brackets or rollers add to that and we tell you the figure before we start.
No. The door is hanging on one side, the load is going through a single bottom bracket under full spring tension, and every cycle bends the track further. Leave it where it is.
Usually because a spring broke first and the door dropped, or because the cable frayed where it wraps the drum. Near the coast, salt corrodes the strands from the inside, which is why cables here fail earlier than inland.
Always. They are the same age and carry the same load, so replacing one leaves a mismatched pair pulling unevenly — which loads the springs unequally and pulls the door off the track.
